Winter Woodstack! is a winter-themed activity game designed for people with moderate dementia, such as Alzheimer’s. If you’re looking for Alzheimer’s activities, you’ve come to the right place!

Winter Woodstack! is a casual mobile activity game designed primarily for people with moderate dementia (such as Alzheimer’s). It could also be appropriate for folks with slight tremors or other minor or moderate motor skill impairments, such as those associated with Parkinson’s.

In Winter Woodstack!, the player chops wood by tapping an axe. But, to help reinforce some basic cognitive skills, the player is sometimes called up on to rotate the log prior to chopping it in order to end up with the required log shapes (either circular or half-moon shaped) for the level.

As the player completes each level, they are rewarded with a log to stack up in their woodshed. When the woodshed is full, the player wins!

  • DOES NOT INCLUDE ADS that interrupt the player experience (nor will it ever include ads in the future!).
  • To control or mute the volume of the background music, simply use your iPad/iPhone’s volume buttons.
  • Optimized for larger iPad screens, but still fully functional on smaller iPhone screens, including the new iPhone X series phones.

Only a modest $0.99!

{04 December 2018} More Big News: Our latest iPhone/iPad activity game – Winter Woodstack! – for people with dementia/Alzheimer’s has been approved by the App Store!  🙂  After we closed Beta Testing late last week, we put the final edits on the game and submitted it. This morning we got the green light!

We decided to make this one a paid-upfront game (a modest $0.99). Based on the relative success of our recently released Holiday Decorate! game, we believe that a paid-upfront game will bring valuable mental engagement to our audience. For those interested in the Behind-the-Scenes details, here’s the logic:

  1. We have very much enjoyed creating our first two games, and we would like to be able to continue. Thus, economic reality dictates that we need funding (aka, a “revenue stream” in business-speak).
  2. Ensuring that the player never has a jarring interruption while playing one of our games is very important to us. Thus, we feel that a one-time, upfront payment is the best pricing option (as opposed to ads or something more complicated like in-app purchases, neither of which make sense for our games’ players).
  3. We opted for the App Store’s Tier 1 price of $0.99 because our games are casual and purposefully designed to have short gameplay time (i.e., the total time from starting to ultimately winning). [Although we have incorporated automatic game restart, to create a sort of infinite loop of gameplay, if the player wants to more conveniently play another game.]

Finally, a big shout-out to our Beta Testers! Thank you all so much for your feedback!  😀

{26 November 2018} I hope everyone in the U.S. had a great Thanksgiving holiday weekend! Although we were busy releasing Holiday Decorate!, all of us here at A&L Studio managed to get some much-needed relaxation and family time.

But now we are back and ready to go! In fact, we are just putting the final touches on our next iPhone/iPad activity game for people with dementia/Alzheimer’s. This new game is called Winter Woodstack!, and it’s stylistically similar to Holiday Decorate! but with slightly different gameplay. In this one, the player has to chop wood and stack it in the woodshed. The general theme was inspired by my helping my Dad chop wood in the winter when I was a kid. We also thought it might be a good idea to balance our first 2 games: The outdoorsy theme of Winter Woodstack! might appeal to folks who aren’t much into interior holiday decorating.

{15 November 2018} Even as we prepare to release our first-ever game/app, Holiday Decorate!, we have already begun our second game project! Check back for details…
