The effects of Alzheimer’s are devastating, yet there are very hopeful medical strides being made to help prevent or alleviate its symptoms. Being touched personally by having my Mom suffer from the effects of this disease, I have made myself more aware of this life-threatening nightmare over the years.
Mom was proactive in learning how to possibly avoid or delay the onset of Alzheimer’s. But her research was limited to only a few articles she read in magazines, and the thin pamphlets in her doctor’s office didn’t contain a lot of information. This was back some years ago when not much research was being done nor being widely published.
Today we have far more information available and research is being conducted by various specialists, such as Dr. Jeffrey Burns at the University of Kansas. Based on his research, he recommends a minimum of 30 minutes of walking daily, at least fives times a week. It seems Mom had the right idea over 40 years ago about exercise helping to delay Alzheimer’s. Maintaining full-body health is very important, as are other, more specific factors involved in maintaining a healthy brain. Remember, your brain is “command central” for memory, cognitive skills, motor skills, etc. You must keep your brain in tip-top condition!
I will continue to enlighten you, my loyal readers, on the many findings I have discovered in my search for valid, medical information to help us all deal with what has become, in my humble opinion, a modern-day plague. There’s a lot to read through and understand, but please have hope because there is good, solid medical research being done right now, world-wide that could lead to a breakthrough soon.
